My name is Ismael. When this started I had three kids and my wife was pregnant with her 3rd month. I was very happy that god gifted me with another child. We are of the many who were displaced to southern Gaza. We left all we own back home; north of Gaza. I thought we are going to leave for two days and come back.
On the 8th day of war at 2:00 am, the sound was extremely loud and very close to us. My mother in law called my wife on the phone shouting and screaming ”I can’t find your brothers,” my wife could not understand what was going on. My mother in law’s building was warned by evacuation so her sons went down to see what was going on. There they bombed the building opposite to them and killed. My mother in law said that she couldn’t see their bodies. They were shattered and blood was everywhere.
We have experienced worse. Each day we are finishing another month. My wife got closer to her 8th month. There was no doctor to follow up with. Food was scarce and her health was very poor. Until one night were sounds got louder and from stress her water broke, 2 months early. There were no doctors available and I couldn’t take her to the hospital due to the situation. Women in the house used laundry clips and basic scissors, and helped her by light of cellphones. They have discovered that we had twins. They weighed less than a kg.
My wife is so brave that she got into this and she is still patient. We both lost our jobs; our house is completely burned, but now we try to live in the bombed remains of my mother in laws house with our 5 children. To keep them safe, warm, fed, and give them an education is impossible on our own.
